Exploring Podcast

When I first began listening to these podcast I was bored out of my mind. But after I listened to a couple of different podcast, they began to get very informative, and i can't wait to become an educator so I can implement some of the things I have learned in EDM 310 in my own teachings.
The first podcast I listened to was KidCast #62 the speaker was Schmitt. I honestly did not enjoy or follow his video. His speech was very broken and he had a hard time delivering his message about video casting.

The only real information I gathered out of MacBreak Weekly #155 is that the speaker wants to use a special camera system called the clapper for his podcast. Honestly I was very lost for most of his message.

Teaching with a Smart Board podcast gave interesting ideas on how to use the board in math classes. The podcast gave ideas for teachers who teach on all different math levels ideas on how to innovate Smart Board in their classrooms. Smart Board gets students more involved physically in learning math than the traditional teaching methods.

This week in photography was my next podcast. This podcast gives great ideas on how to use the latest camera's used in photography. But I would never incorporate their ideas in to my classroom.

About Me

My name is Kourtney Mosley and I am a junior this year at the University of South Alabama majoring in Elementary Education. This is my first year at USA, I transferred from Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, AL.

I love spending time with my family and friends and traveling. I have a very strong religious background and I attend St. John Apostolic Church of Promise.

I work in the Mobile County Public School System as a substitute teacher and I can't wait to become a kindergarten or first grade teacher so I can make a difference in the lives of our young children.

Vicki Davis: Harness Your Students' Digital Smarts

Mrs. Davis is thinking of our children's future in terms of them being able to get employment. Most jobs today require that you be completely computer literate. She teaches her students how to be independent when they are learning how to use the web, but she also lets her students collaborate with each other inside of the classroom to help those who don 't have a good understanding of what is being taught.

Technology has taken over the world as we know it, and I think Mrs. Davis is doing a wonderful job with her students to stimulate their mind and make them excited about learning, and also she is preparing them for their future once they complete grade school.

Sir Ken Robinson: The Importance of Creativity

Sir Ken Robinson stresses the importance of creativity. He compares having a creative mind to being literate. He states in order to be a creative being you have to be prepared to be wrong in your thoughts. If a child cannot accept the fact of being wrong they will never develop a creative mind. Most children have very creative minds because they use their imagination to express their thoughts and ideas.

Sir Ken Robinson told the story of Gillian Lynn. Gillian couldn't sit still in the classroom and her teacher though she suffered from attention deficit disorder (ADD). That wasn't the case at all, many children like Gillian need another approach to education. Many children like her learn their math and reading through songs and dancing. I think educators should be more open minded to educating their students other than just using a text book approach.

Mr. Winkle Awakes

Mr. Winkle is afraid when he awakens from his sleep after 100 years to find how the new world around him has changed. Mr. Winkle seemed lost in the new world he didn't know how to function at all. When he went to the emergency room at the hospital he was in a state of shock to see doctors using x-rays to make their diagnosis on patients, and using respirators to keep patients alive.

I believe technology should be used in the classroom because each day the world seems to be changing and we have to keep our students up to date on the latest technology so they won't be lost in the new world like Rip Van Winkle was.

Did You Know?

"Did You Know?" was a very quick presentation of how the technological world around us is changing each day. I watched the presentation twice to get a better understanding of all the statistics that were provided to prove that technology is a process of change.

Most of the information on the you tube video was not at all shocking to me. Sometimes it worries me how fast the world of technology is changing, sometimes I worry I won't be able to keep up with the changes. I am glad that text messaging was invented, text messaging has changed my life I can communicate more often with my friends and family now.
